El Gringolombiano
Hey everyone, my name is Francisco Macia and I am a Colombian-American “Gringolombiano“. š
I was born and raised in Orange County, California. I came into this world as a gringo, but both my amazing parents are Colombian. My father is from Bogota and my mother is from Bucaramanga. For the first 21 years of my life, I had never visited Colombia, mainly because most of our family lives in California, so we really had no one to visit in Colombia. That all changed 5 years ago after my older brother decided to move to this beautiful country. I used every vacation time I had to visit my brother and visit Colombia.
Today, I live in Medellin, Colombia. I have been living here for almost 2 yearsĀ now and it has been a great experience so far. I have met many great people here in Medellin, both expats and locals. There are many reasons why I left the states to live in Colombia. One reason was because of the friendships I made here in the city from the past times I visited. I also moved here to help start my brother’s online business with his friend. Moving here has also given me the chance to visit where my family comes from and understand the culture more.
All the bad stuff that you have heard about Colombia is gone and now people are starting to realize what a great country Colombia is. I truly believe everyone should visit Colombia at least once. That is why I started Yo Amo Colombia. I started sharing amazing photos that I have took and sharing other people’s photos on my YoAmoColombia instagram account.
Here I will be writing my experience living in Medellin and visiting the other wonderful cities of Colombia, as well as sharing helpful traveling tips for Colombia.
